- Directional boring (HDD): a steered pilot hole from a small pit, reamed to size, then the product pipe pulled back through it.
- Jack-and-bore: steel casing pushed under a road or driveway where a straight, shallow crossing is the right tool.
- Potholing and daylighting: a small window opened over an existing line so the crossing is seen before the head gets there.

## How a bore is done (five steps)
1. The street is finished: asphalt, lawns, driveways, no open trench.
2. A machine starts a steered hole from a small pit at the edge of a yard or drive. The driveway stays whole.
3. The hole is made under the street through Houston clay, between the lines already marked by 811 paint.
4. A reamer opens the pilot to size, then the product pipe, fused into one length, is pulled back through the hole.
5. The crew comes up, closes both pits, and the street looks the same.
